AI Engineer Intern
About the Role
MentoraX is offering an AI Engineer Internship for candidates who want practical, production-oriented experience across data science, machine learning, and applied AI. You will support end-to-end AI delivery: data preparation, experimentation, evaluation, and integration into real products.
This role focuses on AI factories, agents, client integrations, and developer workflows (no cloud platforms required).
Responsibilities
Data Science & ML Development
- Collect, clean, and prepare datasets; build reproducible preprocessing pipelines.
- Train and evaluate ML models (classification, regression, clustering, time series, NLP).
- Perform feature engineering, hyperparameter tuning, and error analysis.
- Design experiments, track results, and document findings clearly.
Applied AI (LLMs, Agents, RAG)
- Build AI features using modern LLM workflows: prompting, function calling, and structured outputs.
- Implement RAG pipelines (chunking, embeddings, retrieval, reranking, evaluation).
- Develop and test AI agents (tool use, orchestration, guardrails, memory patterns).
- Integrate models into client-ready experiences (APIs, SDK usage, automation flows).
AI Factory & Delivery Engineering
- Contribute to “AI factory” workflows: dataset → training/fine-tuning → evaluation → packaging → release.
- Create evaluation suites, metrics dashboards, and regression checks for AI quality.
- Package experiments into reusable modules and services for internal teams.
Engineering Practices
- Build API services for AI features using FastAPI (or similar).
- Use Git workflows, code reviews, and issue tracking to deliver consistently.
- Containerize local services using Docker when needed (no cloud deployment required).

- Strong Python fundamentals and clean coding habits.
- Solid foundations in statistics, linear algebra, and ML concepts.
- Hands-on experience with common DS tools: NumPy, Pandas, Jupyter.
- Familiarity with ML frameworks: PyTorch (preferred) and/or TensorFlow/Keras.
- Familiarity with scikit-learn and model evaluation metrics (precision/recall/F1, ROC-AUC, MSE, etc.).
- Basic understanding of LLMs and modern AI workflows (prompting, embeddings, RAG, agents).
- Ability to read research/blogs/docs and translate them into working code.
- Professional communication and strong documentation habits for remote work.
Tools & Frameworks You May Use (No Cloud Required)
- PyTorch / TensorFlow, scikit-learn, XGBoost/LightGBM
- Hugging Face Transformers/Datasets, tokenizers, embedding models
- Agent/RAG tooling: LangChain and/or LlamaIndex (or similar)
- Vector search: FAISS, Chroma, Qdrant (local/on-prem)
- Experiment tracking/reproducibility: MLflow, DVC (or equivalents)
- APIs: FastAPI, Pydantic
- Dev tooling: Git, Docker, pytest, Linux CLI
Nice to Have
- Experience with fine-tuning (LoRA/PEFT), quantization, or model optimization.
- Knowledge of MLOps concepts (versioning, evaluation gates, reproducible pipelines).
- Experience building small full-stack demos or integrating AI into products.
- Familiarity with data visualization (Matplotlib/Plotly) and reporting.
